Son of James Duncan and Eleanor Maude Mary (Freeman) Turner of Central Butte, who came from Manitoba to homestead SW34-30-19-W3 southwest of Herschel, moving later to a farm west of Tugaske and still later to a fuel distributorship at Central Butte. Jim Jr. was enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan in engineering when he enlisted at Saskatoon on January 21, 1942.
LAC Turner's Tiger Moth collided with another during a forced landing exercise at No. 2 Elementary Flying Training School, Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Turner Lake, Saskatchewan located at 55.9167°N / 107.4833°W, east of Patuanak, is named in his honour.
